Chapter 1 : Gateshead

Jane Eyre is a 10-year-old orphan girl. She lives with her aunt, Mrs. Reed, and her three cousins. They are rich, but Jane is not treated well. She is often alone and sad.

One cold and rainy day, Jane reads a book in a quiet room. She hides behind a curtain and feels safe.

Her cousin John finds her. He is mean and hurts her. He throws a book at her, and she falls and hits her head. Jane gets angry and fights back.

Mrs. Reed comes and blames Jane. She does not listen to Jane's side. As punishment, she sends Jane to the red-room, a dark and scary place. Jane feels very sad and alone.

PERSONAL OPINION:

— This first part of the story is very strong. It shows that people are not kind to Jane, even when she is just a child. Jane is smart, brave, and has deep feelings, but her family does not see this. They treat her like she is not important.

Many people like Jane because she tries to protect herself, even when she is scared and alone. This part of the story helps us see why Jane becomes a strong and independent woman. We feel sorry for her and hope her life gets better.

ACTIVITIES:

Jane Eyre : She is 10 years old, she is a sad, lonely girl but very smart, and she wants to achieve her objectives (I know)

She really needs care, love, and kindness. Thing that doesn't receive from her aunt. (I guess)

Bessie: She says rough words. She tells Jane she is weak. She compares Jane to her cousins in a negative way. (I know)

She is rude, she looks down on Jane. (I guess)

— John Reed: He is a rude and cruel person, because he hurts every day Jane (I know)

He acts like that because it is his personal character (I guess)

Eliza Reed: She tells John where Jane is hiding, she is a cruel too, like her brother (I know)

She is a bad person, like her brother (I guess)

Georgiana Reed: She's a ridiculous person, because she laughs at Jane and never helps her (I know)

She thinks, she is better than everyone, especially than Jane because, she is rich and “pretty” (I guess)

Mrs. Reed: She is the aunt from Jane, and she does not love Jane and every day punished her (I know)

She does this, maybe because when she was little she had a trauma, and now when she looks at Jane, she remembers that trauma and that's why she punishes her and hits her

(I guess)
