Victorian society was the society in England during the time of Queen Victoria (1837–1901). It had many social rules and big differences between rich and poor people. Men had more power than women, and people had to follow strict behaviour.

Jane Eyre is a story about a girl named Jane. She has no parents and lives with her mean aunt. She goes to a school where life is hard. When she grows up, she becomes a teacher in a big house. She meets Mr. Rochester, the owner of the house, and they fall in love. But Mr. Rochester has a secret. What is the secret?
